Professor DANG VAN
MECAMIX, a company that is part of X-Tech, a business incubator at the Ecole Polytechnique, was founded on the initiative of Professor Dang Van, former Director of Research at CNRS, who has led for long time the Fatigue-Fracture group at the Laboratory of Solid Mechanics at the Ecole Polytechnique.

An original multi-scale unified approach, based on a physical understanding of the phenomena leading to damage, has been developed, already successfully validated by many industrial applications. It allows to address most problems encountered in fatigue, whether in massive parts, welded structures, damage, vibration fatigue...

It also allows considering optimizing manufacturing and assembly processes such as welding, shot peening, roller burnishing, and various other surface treatments. For example, MECAMIX has developed a comprehensive multi-physics modeling of the welding process, ranging from arc plasma to predicting residual distortions and stresses.

Designing an industrial structure, which must withstand fatigue, requires knowledge of the stresses and deformations resulting from a large number of thermomechanical loading cycles. If the structure  undergoes plastic deformation (e.g. in contact fatigue), these calculations with conventional methods and finite elements codes are difficult, expensive and not accurate enough. The founders of MECAMIX have developed new methods of calculation that effectively address all these problems.
